DESIGNER - TRUE NORTH SLINGS

I'm a mom of a three year old and a 7 month old. I created True North Slings when my first son was one and I have the pleasure of running it alongside my husband Dmitri.

What are you best known for?

In the babywearing community I would say it's a toss up between my dye art and the triple shoulder sling. Hopefully also for being a swell person who helps people.

What or who has influenced your design aesthetic the most?

I've always really loved mid-century modern style and that colour palette is always something I come back to. Dye art wise I really admire Melissa from Pink Willow Tree - her work is stunning and she's constantly playing and exploring new looks.

What inspired you to become a designer?

Creativity, art and design have always been a huge part of my life. My first son was a very colicky baby and things didn't work out for me to keep teaching ballet. Without dance in my life I was definitely missing a creative outlet. I started the company with the goal of making a linen baby carrier that was more affordable for Canadian caregivers. It has grown and evolved so much from that simple mission and now really satisfies my need to create and experiment with colour, fabric and texture.
