What inspired you to start your business?

I started my business my freshman year of college because I hated parties. Yes, I became a DJ because I hated parties.

At the time, I was struggling with my personal identity, and having a really difficult time making friends. The parties were a constant source of anxiety and I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people. I felt like I was talking to so many people at every party but I had no friends after months of trying.

One day, I was asked by my fraternity brother to play the music for the party that night. I remember just playing the songs I liked to listen to on my phone. People began to react instantly, and instead of coming to the party staying for a few minutes and leaving, everyone was dancing and singing, and I was the reason why.I fed off of the energy, and the connection - I was hooked. For the first time in my life I found something that gave me true confidence, a passion and a purpose.

I spent all the money I had saved up and I bought some DJ equipment. I poured every minute I had into practicing to the detriment of my exams. I always say the reason I didn’t have the grades to get into the business school was because I had already started my business. Getting rejected from the biz school only motivated me to work even harder.I started playing for on campus organizations, and that led me into the private event space.

By the time I graduated I was making enough money that I could support myself, so I decided to invest in my business full time.

What is something you would say to someone who is struggling in their first few years of business? Is there something you struggled with and learned from in those first few years?

I would say to focus on quality before anything else. It's more important to refine your craft before attempting to scale. If you focus on quality before anything else, the scaling will come as a natural result of how people gravitate towards your amazing product or service. Patience is key and you should always be seeking to improve.

What hobbies, causes, or activities are you passionate about aside from your work?

I love to go on hikes with my boyfriend and our dogs. We are both strong advocates for animal rescue.
