Erin Sanouvong

I am a wife and a stay-at-home mother of three kids. I bake and decorate cookies by hand with royal icing for special occasions and events.

What inspired you to start your business?

My children and their friends inspired me. My oldest son isn't really a sweet tooth but he enjoys and tells me that he appreciates my cookies. He was the first one to encourage me to do this as a business. I have been a stay-at-home mother full time for 5 years and I found that decorating cookies is a relaxing activity for me at the end of a long day. It is MY thing to nurture!

What is something you would say to someone who is struggling in their first few years of business? Is there something you struggled with and learned from in those first few years?

I would say don't be afraid to ask for help. There are a lot of little moving parts to manage as a new business owner. Figure out what you can effectively take on and if there are any responsibilities you would be able to delegate to someone offering help. Also, this is the hard part, TRY NOT TO COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS in your industry. We are all here to succeed and there is more than enough business for everyone.

What hobbies, causes, or activities are you passionate about aside from your work?

I am passionate about helping others in need and teaching philanthropy and empathy to my children and their friends. I work with my kids to do something for others without expecting anything in return. We try to take a day once a month to have a Thoughtful Thursday, where we choose a program to help with. It ranges from making lunches for our homeless friends, buying and carrying groceries for our senior community, or dropping off necessities to a local shelter.
