Rachel Korinek

I’m Rachel Korinek, professional Aussie food photographer in Vancouver. I love capturing the beauty of real food and teaching other photographers how to find their own style.

What inspired you to start your business?

Deep down I never I couldn’t let fear stop me from trying to make my dreams come true. I didn’t want to look back on my life and have never given it a shot. I felt called to create and inspire people. I wanted to take a risk and freelance my photography services.

What is something you would say to someone who is struggling in their first few years of business? Is there something you struggled with and learned from in those first few years?

That success comes to those who are willing to push through discomfort. I believe my success comes from never giving up. Working through setbacks, thinking about the long term game. Social media can glaze over the reality of our expectations and how long things take to eventuate. I used to struggle with feeling worthy of success and taking ‘nos’ personally. To always trust and believe in yourself. Do what it takes to take pressure off yourself. Set goals and manage your time.

What hobbies, causes, or activities are you passionate about aside from your work?

Climate and environmental protection are so important to me. I’ve started donating a certain amount of business profits to environmental charities. I aim to live simply and reduce my impact on the planet.

I love yoga, swimming, hiking, camping and cooking.

I’m really into making cocktails and I collect vintage glassware.

My parents were both ornithologists and I enjoy bird watching. I know a large percentage of birds back home in Australia and I’m slowly learning the types of bird in North America.
