What makes you stand out in the maker community?
I hope it's that I'm willing to help others, answering questions, sharing my process and materials, and generally being a friendly face to my peers!
Tell us about your work and the projects you are currently working on.
I'm always working on blockprint landscapes, exploring lines, textures, and contrasts, but I've also been experimenting with mixed media a lot. I've found great joy in playing with "painted terrain," swiping colorful strokes with palette knives to build little worlds I then illustrate with fine-tipped pens. I've begun releasing a collection of these each month.
Who is your favorite contemporary artist or maker?
Monika Kralicek. Her work is stunning and I love that she continues to explore her craft.
What inspired you to become a maker?
One of my rehabilitative doctors recommended I revisit my creative side, something I'd abandoned years before, just to gently work my brain. Something to keep my hands and mind busy, but with little to no stress. I chose blockprinting, something I'd never done before, because I wanted to make a blockprinted scarf. One little blockprinting project became another, and another, and another... I just never stopped. But I still haven't made my scarf!
