What inspired you to start your business?
It was circumstantial. I lost my job, my home and brother-in-law all in one week. I was stuck in a developing country with no job, no friends, and I didn't speak the local language so I started blogging to 1) communicate with the outside world 2) find a purpose 3) make friends and in so doing it became my business accidentally. I started making money from my blog my very first week which in retrospect is really rare (something I had no idea was supposed to be hard). After a year of blogging, I was interviewed by the Huffington Post and that is when I realized that blogging was my super skill! That is when I turned my knowledge into a course and started selling my strategies in how I created such a successful and profitable blog in such a short time frame.
What is something you would say to someone who is struggling in their first few years of business? Is there something you struggled with and learned from in those first few years?
I struggled with direction when I first started. I don't believe that is a hindrance though. You will learn along the way, your path will start getting clearer and your goals will start taking form. I recommend you keep going, keep taking actions, because RESULTS come from ACTIONS, even if you "don't know what you're doing" at the moment, it will get clearer the more you experiment.
What hobbies, causes, or activities are you passionate about aside from your work?
I love playing sand volleyball! I also love creating inspirational content on my personal Instagram page @elainerau. I post about beauty, tech and travel and things that inspire me. That is technically "work" as well from an influencer perspective, but I personally love it.
