What inspired you to start your business?

As a designer previously in my career, I always struggled with unaffordable design assets. I saw a need and set out to systematically offer something drastically better than the existing options.

In addition to running Design Cuts (a community of 500,000 creatives, and the most curated, quality design marketplace in the world), in my spare time I help thousands of creatives for free via my side hustle, Tom Ross Media.

What is something you would say to someone who is struggling in their first few years of business? Is there something you struggled with and learned from in those first few years?

Work to find product market fit. All the marketing tactics in the world won't work if the market doesn't want/need what you're offering. When you find it, double down, as it won't last forever. Competition will rise, the industry can change, so make hay while the sun shines, and keep innovating.

I think being average means you're invisible. Whether it's customer care, new features, partnerships or content production I believe in going the extra mile - it's less crowded there.

What hobbies, causes, or activities are you passionate about aside from your work?

Playing guitar/bass. Making short films. Drinking and eating too much with friends. Golf.
